Kim Kiraly is excited to join the AWest Community as a new member of the Family & Consumer Sciences Team. Kim grew up in Glenview, IL which is a suburb of Chicago, IL where she lived, coached and taught for thirteen years prior to moving to Colorado. Ms. Kiraly teaches Child Development, Education Exploration, Relationships, Culinary Nutrition, and Nutrition & Wellness. In addition to her work within the classroom, Ms. Kiraly coaches both swimming and diving as well as advises extra curricular clubs such as FCCLA. Glenbrook South High School (Glenview, IL) awarded Ms. Kiraly the distinct honor of “Recognition of Meritorious Service” in 2017, a prestigious honor reserved to only one teacher each year.

Ms. Kiraly completed her Bachelors of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences Education from Iowa State University.  She later went on to receive two Master’s Degrees, one in Teacher Leadership from Elmhurst College/University and the other in School Leadership/Principalship Northeastern Illinois University.

However, at the core of her craft, Ms. Kiraly pulls on her experiences from Camp Adventure. Ms. Kiraly spent 15 summers working for Camp Adventure Youth Services where she supervised CDC, day camp, teen camp and aquatic youth programs around the world. Throughout her years in the program, Ms. Kiraly realized the power and personal impact of the Camp Adventure and a global experience. She believes the prolific American author, Mark Twain, says it best: “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” She believes that students have incredible opportunities to learn and develop leadership skills throughout their high school experience and beyond. Ms. Kiraly believes students should “throw off [their] bowlines, and sail away” to explore their future, community and the world through all this fabulous school has to offer.

Ms. Kiraly moved to Colorado with her partner, Jerad and white Labrador, Abbey. She is excited to hike, bike, ski and explore her new home! However, her main passions remain coaching and teaching. Ms. Kiraly cannot wait to start working with the spectacular students at AWest, Go Wildcats!!!
