About me:
I am very proud mom of two, amazing kids and our silver lab. My undergraduate degree is in engineering and I previously worked as a mechanical engineering consultant in the construction industry. After a few years working as an engineer, I realized I needed more so I changed careers and became a math teacher. After teaching math for 15 years, I have had this exciting opportunity to build a STEM program at Awest. This is my 18th year teaching and my 10th year at Arvada West. I love being a part of the Awest community. Go Wildcats!
Education:
Masters in Mathematics from the University of Northern Colorado with an emphasis in teaching
Bachelors in Architectural Engineering from the University of Colorado, Boulder
Extracurricular:
I am the adviser to the Awest STEAM Club. We are hosting school-based competitions as well as participating in the Colorado Technology Student Association and the Department of Energy Science Bowl. I am passionate about students learning by hands-on projects.
Educational Philosophies:
It takes courage to jump into a conversation when you aren't sure if you have the right answer or you don't have an answer at all. I strive to create classrooms where students feel safe enough to take these risks. True learning happens when we share our thinking and compare ideas. As the classroom teacher, it is my job to facilitate and guide the conversations so all students can advance their skills in critical thinking, problems solving, and communication.
