Teacher Bio:
I grew up in a military family bouncing around the country and found my way to Colorado in 1997. My wife and I have two kids, a 16-year old and an 11-year old, and we stay busy with our dog. We like to hike, bike, camp, and generally play outside...though we also make time to relax and watch all things Marvel and Star Wars.

Education/Degrees Earned:
Bachelors degree in Psychology from the College of Charleston, in Charleston, South Carolina.
Secondary Science Education (Biology Focus) from Metropolitan State University of Denver, in Denver, Colorado

Work Experience:
This is my second year at Arvada West, and I'm excited to share investigations in science with my students. Before teaching science, I spent a couple decades in the world of child welfare, working with youth in foster care and treatment centers. Working with kids and families is what I've done in my adult life, and I'm glad to be continuing it as a member of the AWest Community!

Little about me, philosophy, etc:

I love learning; about people, about the world, about life. I believe in the 4 Pillars of Learning set out by the neuroscientist Stanislas Dehaene: Attention, Active Engagement, Error Feedback, and Consolidation (this happens mostly when we're sleeping). The sciences can be challenging subjects, but with effort and practice, they can be understood and mastered.

"The universe is a big place, perhaps the biggest."
